MOT stands for Mates Of Tairāwhiti. The MOT program was developed for our people and is delivered by our people. Mā wai rā e tauira? If not me then who?
The White Bands
These represent the rays of the sun and the meeting points between night and day, ocean and land. They may bring to mind the connection between the conscious and the unconscious.
The blues may remind you of the colours as you come into Tairāwhiti, the bright blue sky and the deep blue ocean. They may also bring to mind sadness and depression, and the question of how these arise in our minds and how can we respond.
The Wheku
Also known as the koruru, is often found on the apex of the whare at the marae. This can signify the mana of the people and within this kaupapa may bring to mind questions of how we can maintain the wellbeing of our whanau and community.
The Manaia
On the sides of the wheku, these connect the eyes with the mind. The mind has the ability to see, to consider and conceptualise beyond sight. A powerful process that can be positive and/or problematic.
